Through 12 am EST...a large area of rain with embedded showers...will continue across central east Tennessee and the Great Smoky Mountains. Movement will be east northeast at 45 to 50 miles an hour. Rainfall amounts will range from one tenth...to a quarter of an inch per hour. However...amounts of up to half an inch...will be possible with the heavier showers. Watch for ponding of water on roads.

Wednesday...Mostly cloudy. Rain likely in the morning...then a chance of rain in the afternoon. Breezy. Highs in the upper 40s to lower 50s. Temperature steady or slowly falling in the afternoon. West winds 5 to 15 mph increasing to 15 to 20 mph in the afternoon. Chance of rain 70 percent.
Wednesday Night...Mostly cloudy. A chance of snow showers and a slight chance of rain showers in the evening...then a chance of snow showers after midnight. Colder. Lows around 30. West winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation 40 percent.

At 1053 PM EST/953 PM CST/moderate rain with embedded pockets of
heavy showers was continuing to move northeast across the southern
Appalachians. More rain was headed this way from the southwest from
a long moisture plume out of the Gulf of Mexico. Storm totals of
over four inches are common in southeast Tennessee and North
Carolina. Amounts over three inches are becoming more common
elsewhere.
Flooding has been reported in several counties in the region. Low
spots, small streams and urban areas are most prone, but even larger
rivers are rising significantly.
A Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or has been reported.
Stream rises will be slow and flash flooding is not expected.
However... all interested parties should take necessary precautions
immediately.
Most flood deaths occur in automobiles. Never drive your vehicle into
areas where the water covers the roadway. Flood waters are usually
deeper than they appear. Just one foot of flowing water is powerful
enough to sweep vehicles off the Road. When encountering flooded
roads make the smart choice... turn around... dont drown.

widespread total rainfall amounts of two to four inches
possible by Wednesday morning. In addition... locally higher
amounts will be possible in a few areas.
* In addition to flooding of small creeks and streams and flood
prone areas... rainfall of this magnitude may cause some larger
rivers to rise to near or above their flood stages.
A Flood Watch means that conditions are favorable for heavy
rain... which may lead to flooding in and near the watch area. If
you are in the watch area... .keep an eye out for rising water or
water over roadways. Keep informed... and be ready for action if
flooding is observed or if a Flood Warning is issued. If you come
to a closed or flooded Road... turn around! Don't drown!
